Mike Ferguson, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army

Mike Ferguson is an Attorney at Law with the Pensacola law firm McDonald, Fleming, Moorhead, Ferguson, Green, Smith, Blankenship, Heath and de Kozan, practicing in the field of U.S. and international business law concentrating in commercial litigation, bankruptcy, intellectual property, and sports contracts and licensing.

Mr. Ferguson is admitted to practice law in the state of Florida, the District of Columbia, and the United States District Court, Northern District of Florida.  He has been a certified NFL Player Agent, licensed in Florida and Louisiana, and has worked as a player agent with the CFL, WFL, and other leagues.  He also helped organize the Arena Football 2 League.

In 1960, Mr. Ferguson received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Military Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Brigadier General in August 1986.

During his military career, Mr. Ferguson held numerous command and staff positions to include overseas assignments in Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Germany, as well as positions on the Department of the Army Staff, The Military Personnel Center, the Infantry School, Army Materiel Command and the National Military Command and Control Center.  He also earned advanced Degrees from American University in International Relations and Central Michigan University in Business Management.

Brigadier General Ferguson has been awarded some 30 plus awards, decorations, and badges including the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with one "V" device and three oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 7 campaign stars, the Korea Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal with star, The Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas service Ribbon with numeral three, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with 3 silver stars and 1 gold star, the Vietnamese National Honor Medal, First Class, individual award of the Vietnamese Fourragere, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm. He has also been awarded the CIB, EIB, Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and Department of the Army General Staff Identification Badge.

He entered Law School at the University of Florida two weeks after retiring and graduated in 1989.  He has earned an AV® rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating possible given by his peers in the Pensacola area.
 
Mr. Ferguson has been actively involved with many civic and community organizations throughout his life.  He is Trustee, University of Florida Law Center Association Board of Trustees; Chairman, Advisory Council, College of Business, University of West Florida and approved Adjunct Professor and Guest Lecturer, College of Business, University of West Florida.  Mr. Ferguson is a member, University of West Florida Military Community Policy Council, University of Florida Gator Boosters; Rotary International, Association of Graduates, United States Military Academy and Military Affairs  Committee, Pensacola Rotary.  He is also a life member of Disabled American Veterans, MOAA, American Legion Post 33, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the West Point Society of Northwest Florida, the U.S. Army Ranger Association, the Association of the United States Army, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

As a Civilian Aide, Mr. Ferguson serves as an advisor to the Secretary of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army, and other senior Army commanders whose areas of responsibility involve Florida.  Civilian Aides are provided timely, pertinent information on subjects of general Army, interest, especially subjects that have particular application in their states.

In his role as Civilian Aide, Mr. Ferguson communicates Army messages and themes to communities within the state and in turn provides information about these civilian communities to the Army.  A primary role of a Civilian Aide is serving as a liaison between the Army and the civilian community of his or her state.

For protocol purposes Civilian Aides are ranked just below 3 star general officers and are considered as the Secretary of the Army’s personal representative.
